The annual diplomatic training programme conducted under the Technical Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was inaugurated on Monday 18th September, 2017 at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI). Additional Secretary Grace Asirwatham who is in charge of the Technical Cooperation Programme, Director General Sobhini Gunasekara, Director Kapila Fonseka and other officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were presented at the inauguration.

The Technical Cooperation Programme introduced in 1996, was an initiative of the late Lakshman Kadirgamar, Minister of Foreign Affairs who believed that Sri Lanka should share her experience in diverse fields with the developing countries.

This year, junior Diplomats of 25 countries ranging from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Madagascar, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Tanzania and Vietnam are attending the programme.

The group of Diplomats who are the guests of Sri Lanka had the opportunity of calling on the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on 20th September, 2017. Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy briefed them on the Central Bank of Sri Lanka while Deputy Director
Dr. Anil Perera gave an overview of Sri Lanka economy.

The guests also had an opportunity to visit the parliament and a call on the Honorable Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya on 21st of September, 2017. They also had an opportunity to witness the proceedings of the house.
